Andela Pricing and Andela Cost per Developer, Monthly Rates and the Conversion Fee

Andela pricing is quoted per engagement, with no public rate card. Reported rates run about $35 to $100 or more an hour, so one full-time developer costs roughly $5,600 to $16,000 a month. Hiring that developer onto your payroll in year one has carried a $50,000 fee.

Below, the reported bands become monthly and annual budgets, the contract terms from Andela's own help center become a timeline, and the conversion fee is set against a normal recruiter fee.

$349/mo, or $174/mo billed yearly. Freelancers apply to your post and you pick who to hire.

Trial, notice and conversion terms come from Andela's help center. Hourly bands are client and reviewer reports, because Andela prints none. The US employee figure is BLS. Where Andela is the better buy, we say so.

What one seat costs

Andela hourly rates and monthly cost by seniority

Andela's model is a negotiated monthly rate. The developer names what they want to earn, Andela sets the client rate on top, and you see one number. Reviewers report the bands below. Time off, including sick days, is typically unpaid, so you are billed for hours worked.

Andela contract terms, trial, notice and the first year

The master agreement is open-ended and runs until either side ends it. What costs money is the shape of the first twelve months. You pay for trial days, you owe a month of notice after the trial, and moving the developer onto your own payroll inside year one triggers the conversion fee.

That is why some reviews call it a 12-month minimum. Strictly it is not one, but the fee makes leaving with the person you like expensive until the year is out.

$50/hr$6,000$8,000$50,000

$100/hr$12,000$16,000$50,000

The number that surprises buyers

The Andela conversion fee next to a recruiter fee

Agency recruiters in the US usually charge 20% to 25% of first-year salary to place a developer. On the BLS May 2025 median of $135,980 that is $27,196 to $33,995. Andela's listed $50,000 is 1.5x to 1.8x that, and reviewers note you may be expected to backfill the seat with another Andela engineer as well.

Put differently, it is about five months of a mid-level Andela developer at $60 an hour. If there is any chance you will want to hire the person, price that in on day one.

The question finance will ask

Andela cost against a US developer on payroll

Annual cost of a full-time Andela developer at four rates compared with a loaded US median software developer
Andela rate Per year, 1,920 hrs Against $194,451 loaded US hire
$35/hr$67,2000.35x
$50/hr$96,0000.49x
$70/hr$134,4000.69x
$100/hr$192,0000.99x

A US software developer at the BLS May 2025 median earns $135,980. With benefits and payroll taxes at the BLS employer-cost ratio of 1.43, the company pays $194,451 a year. Andela's reported bands sit well under that until the senior ceiling, where a $100 seat costs the same as an employee.

Fair is fair

When Andela is the right buy, and when a direct hire is

Use Andela when

  • You want a developer for a year or longer and have no plan to put them on your own payroll.
  • You need contracts, payroll and compliance in many countries handled by one vendor.
  • Mid-level rates of $50 to $70 fit the budget better than a US hire at about $101 an hour loaded.
  • An enterprise procurement team wants one master agreement rather than several freelancer contracts.

Hire directly when

  • You may want to bring the developer in-house, and $50,000 is a cost you cannot justify.
  • The project is a few months long, so a month of notice is a big share of the bill.
  • You want to see who applies before a sales call. Browse freelance web developers or freelance React developers, then post.
  • Someone on your team can review code, so a vendor layer adds cost without adding much.

Questions

Andela pricing questions buyers ask

How much does Andela cost?

Andela does not publish a rate card and quotes each engagement. Reported rates run about $35 to $50 an hour for junior developers, $50 to $70 for mid-level and $70 to $100 or more for senior and specialist engineers. At 160 hours a month, one developer costs roughly $5,600 to $16,000.

How much does Andela charge per hour?

Most reported Andela hourly rates sit between $35 and $100, with a few senior AI and data roles above that. The rate is set per engagement: the developer states a preferred monthly rate and Andela negotiates the final client rate, so two engineers with the same title can be billed differently.

Does Andela have a minimum contract?

Andela's help center describes an open-ended agreement. The first 15 business days are a trial that either side can end immediately, and after that either side gives 30 days notice. Some reviewers describe a 12-month commitment, which lines up with the first-year window in which a $50,000 conversion fee applies.

What is the Andela conversion fee?

Andela has listed a $50,000 fee for hiring one of its technologists directly onto your payroll during the first year, and reviewers note you may be expected to backfill the seat. That is about 1.5x to 1.8x a typical 20% to 25% recruiter fee on a $135,980 US developer salary. Confirm the current amount in your contract.

Is Andela cheaper than hiring a US developer?

Usually, yes. A full-time Andela developer at $50 an hour costs about $96,000 a year, 0.49x the $194,451 a US median software developer costs with benefits and payroll taxes. At $70 it is 0.69x, and only at $100 an hour does Andela reach the cost of a US employee.

Does Andela offer a free trial?

Andela offers a trial period of 15 business days, about three weeks, at the start of each engagement. Either party can end the engagement immediately during that window, and you pay prorated fees for the days worked. It is a paid trial, not a free one.
