Senior Full-Stack Developer
Short answer: Superside is a good company sold at a price built for enterprise teams. The smallest current contract is $16,000 a month on a 12-month term, $192,000 a year. For a seed or Series A startup that is roughly the loaded cost of one median US software developer, spent on design instead.
It is worth it when you need more than about 260 design hours a month across several formats and have nobody in house to run creative. Below that, one or two freelance designers you pay directly deliver more work for a fraction of the money, and you keep the right to stop.

$349/mo, or $174/mo billed yearly. Freelancers apply to your post and you pick who to hire.
Superside sells a managed creative team rather than a designer. You commit a monthly budget, submit requests through its platform, and a team of senior creatives in several time zones produces the work with a project manager in the middle. The scope is wide: ad creative, presentations, landing pages, illustration, motion, video, 3D and brand work, plus AI-assisted production.
Customer reviews on G2 and Clutch are strongly positive, and the praise is consistent: quality is high, turnaround is fast, and the account management takes coordination off the marketing team. Superside also cites a Forrester Total Economic Impact study reporting a 94% three-year ROI. That study was commissioned by Superside, so read it as vendor evidence. It measures enterprise customers, which is exactly the point for a startup deciding whether the model fits.
The complaints that come up are about fit. There is no free trial, only a paid exploratory project. Every subscription is annual. And the entry price has moved upmarket: procurement data from Vendr shows a median buyer at $90,000 a year, yet the published Flex floor today is $192,000. The full plan breakdown, with the software fee and contract terms, is on our Superside pricing page.
Startups think about budget in heads, so put the contract in heads. The BLS May 2025 median wage for software developers was $135,980. Loaded at 1.43 for benefits and payroll taxes, the ratio in the BLS employer cost data, that is $194,451.40 a year. The $192,000 Flex minimum is 98.7% of it. For a company with ten people, signing Superside is a decision of the same size as the next engineering hire.
| What $192,000 a year equals | Loaded annual cost | Superside floor as a share |
|---|---|---|
| Median software developer | $194,451.40 | 98.7%, one engineer |
| Median graphic designer | $90,032.80 | 2.13 designers |
| 90th percentile graphic designer | $150,021.30 | 1.28 senior designers |
| Freelance designer, 60 hrs a month at $70 plus a $349 plan | $54,588 | 3.5 years of that engagement |
None of that makes Superside overpriced. It makes it priced for a company where $192,000 is a line item inside a marketing budget, not a meaningful share of the runway.
Superside does not publish how many hours a Flex budget delivers, so work from your own demand. Count the design hours you really need in a normal month, then divide the $16,000 floor by it. That is the most you could be paying per hour if you use the whole budget on exactly that volume.
| Design hours a month | Typical of | Floor per hour used | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | A few ad sets and one landing page | $800.00 | Freelancer, scoped per project |
| 40 | Steady paid social plus a monthly launch | $400.00 | Freelancer or small subscription |
| 80 | Rebrand quarter, site redesign | $200.00 | One freelance designer, half time |
| 173 | One designer, full time | $92.31 | Freelancer or in-house hire |
| 260 or more, many formats | Growth-stage marketing team | $61.54 or less | Superside becomes a fair buy |
Mid-level US freelance designers mostly quote $45 to $85 an hour. Until your monthly volume pushes the floor per hour down into that band, which happens somewhere past one full-time designer, the managed model is costing you more than the design itself.
Take a US SaaS startup after a seed round. It needs a site refresh, eight paid social ad sets a month, a sales deck, and product screenshots for each release. Call it 60 design hours a month, which is generous. A senior freelance designer at $70 an hour costs $4,200 a month, plus $349 for the post on a flat plan, so $4,549 a month or $54,588 a year.
The freelance route needs a founder or marketer to brief and review. Budget three hours a week at a loaded manager rate of about $115 an hour and that adds $1,491 a month. The full cost rises to $6,040 a month, $72,477 a year. Against the Superside minimum that leaves $119,523 a year in the bank, and the engagement can stop the month the site ships.

A common reason founders look at Superside is ad volume: a competitor seems to ship new creative every week and it feels like you need a studio to keep up. Before you size a creative budget against a rival, track what rival brands are actually running and how often it changes. Many teams find the real cadence is a few new concepts a month with variants, which one good designer covers comfortably.
Startup design demand spikes around launches and fundraising, then drops. A 12-month minimum does not drop with it. Exit after month four and $128,000 is still committed.
Unused Flex budget carries forward for up to three months. A quiet quarter spent building product can burn budget you never draw down.
$1,000 a month, $12,000 a year, for the platform. That alone pays for about 171 hours of a $70 freelance designer.
Standard onboarding is included, but the optional $20,000 Quick Start takes year one to $212,000. Ask what standard onboarding covers before you pay for the faster one.
We compete with Superside for part of this budget, so read this as the section written against our own interest. There are real cases where it is the right answer for a young company.
Outside those cases, the cheaper shape is to hire one strong designer and pay them directly. You can browse vetted freelance designers with their rates and portfolios, compare every option by volume in our freelance graphic design cost breakdown, or read the Design Pickle pricing analysis if a queue-based subscription is the middle ground you are weighing.
For most seed and Series A startups, no. The smallest current contract is $16,000 a month on a 12-month term, $192,000 a year, which is about the fully loaded cost of one median US software developer. It becomes worth it once you need more than roughly 260 design hours a month across several formats and have no creative lead in house.
Yes. Superside is an established creative services company with strongly positive reviews on G2 and Clutch and a large enterprise client list. The criticism that holds up is about fit, not legitimacy: the annual minimum is sized for mid-market and enterprise teams, so smaller buyers pay for capacity they do not use.
At least $16,000 a month on the Flex plan: a $15,000 creative budget plus a $1,000 software fee, billed on a 12-month commitment. The Dedicated AI-Native Team plan starts at $30,000 a month plus the same fee. Procurement data shows buyers negotiating 15% to 30% off initial quotes.
It will sell to any company that meets the minimum, and some venture-backed startups use it after a large round. In practice the pricing is built for teams with a monthly creative budget above $16,000. A seed-stage company usually gets more design per dollar from one or two freelancers it pays directly.
They serve different buyers. Design Pickle is a queue-based subscription at roughly $1,918 to $2,098 a month. Superside is a managed creative team from $16,000 a month with project management, video, motion and 3D. Superside costs 7.6 times the higher Design Pickle plan, which only makes sense at enterprise volume.
Post the brief you would send a creative team and see who applies. Review portfolios, agree the rate and pay the designer directly. $349 a month for the post, no project fee and no annual term.
Business is $349 per month, or $174 per month billed yearly (50% off), for a project post on the SuperGig project board, with no project fee.
