Maya K.
Senior Full-Stack Developer
Codementor pricing is set by each mentor. Live 1:1 help costs $8 to $30 per 15 minutes, which is $32 to $120 an hour, and freelance jobs typically run $60 to $100 an hour. Codementor adds a service fee to every payment, reported as 2.85% plus $1 to $3.
There is no subscription, so what you pay depends on how you use it. An hour of help and a developer kept for three months are two very different bills, and Codementor is better at the first.

$349/mo, or $174/mo billed yearly. Freelancers apply to your post and you pick who to hire.
Two ways to pay
Codementor sells two things on one marketplace. Live sessions are screen-share calls with a developer who helps you debug, review code or learn a stack, billed by the minute. Freelance jobs are small projects you post with a budget, and developers offer to do them. Posting a request costs nothing.
Session pricing has one quirk worth knowing. The mentor's 15-minute rate is charged in full for the first 15 minutes, and after that you pay the same rate per minute. A 5-minute answer costs as much as 15 minutes. A 45-minute session with a $30 mentor costs $90.
Freelance jobs work closer to a classic marketplace. You set a budget, pick a developer and pay when the work is done. Reviewers report most developers there quote $60 to $100 an hour. Bigger hires go elsewhere, which we cover below.

What a real month costs
Here are six common jobs, priced at the low and high ends of the reported bands, with the service fee as reviewers describe it. Codementor's own help center confirms a fee is added to every transaction and shown before you pay, but does not print the formula, so treat the fee column as an estimate.
| What you buy | Rate assumed | Developer cost | Est. service fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-minute debugging session | $8 to $30 per 15 min | $16 to $60 | $1.46 to $4.71 |
| 1-hour code review call | $32 to $120/hr | $32 to $120 | $1.91 to $6.42 |
| Weekly 1-hour mentoring, one month | $32 to $120/hr | $128 to $480 | $4.65 to $16.68 |
| 20-hour freelance fix | $60 to $100/hr | $1,200 to $2,000 | $35.20 to $60.00 |
| Part-time developer, 80 hrs a month | $60 to $100/hr | $4,800 to $8,000 | $137.80 to $231.00 |
| Full-time developer, 160 hrs a month | $60 to $100/hr | $9,600 to $16,000 | $274.60 to $459.00 |
The fee is regressive. On a $40 session the $1 to $3 platform charge plus 2.85% comes to 5% to 10% of what you spend. On a $2,000 job it is about 3%. Small, frequent sessions pay the highest share, which is the opposite of how most people use the platform.
The bigger cost is the rate itself. Mentors price for short, high-focus help, so a senior mentor at $30 per 15 minutes is a $120 an hour developer. Use that rate for ten hours of routine feature work a month and you pay $1,200 for what an $80 contractor would do for $800.
Where the long hires went
Codementor once ran its own vetted hiring service, CodementorX. In 2019 that service was rebranded as Arc, and today Arc.dev is the sister company that handles longer freelance contracts and full-time developer placements. Codementor stays the place for sessions and small jobs.
So if you came to Codementor to hire a developer for months, the honest comparison is Arc, not Codementor. Arc prices differently: a margin inside the hourly rate, a reported small deposit and a 20% of salary fee if you convert someone to full time. We broke it down in Arc.dev pricing.
A lot of session time goes to one thing: a mentor reading an unfamiliar repository so they can explain how it fits together. If that is most of what you are buying, an AI tool that answers questions about your codebase can take the first pass, and you book the human for the decisions that need judgment.
Side by side
| Route | Typical rate | Client fee | Vetting | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Codementor | $32 to $120/hr sessions, $60 to $100 jobs | 2.85% + $1 to $3, reported | Mentor profiles and reviews | Live help, small fixes |
| Upwork Basic | set by freelancer | 5%, 3% by US ACH, + up to $14.99 per contract | Open market, you vet | Wide choice, any budget |
| Arc.dev | $15 to $110+ | margin inside rate, 20% to convert | Pre-vetted | Remote hires for months |
| Toptal | $60 to $150+, reported | $79/mo + markup, reported | Pre-vetted | One senior engineer fast |

Codementor wins when
A direct hire wins when
To be straight about our own math, a $349 flat plan only beats Codementor's reported fee once you spend about $12,140 a month through it. Below that, Codementor's fee is cheaper. What the flat plan buys is the shortlist and a direct relationship, not a smaller fee on small jobs. For fair rates by stack see our freelance developer rates for 2026, and for every platform's fee on one page see freelance platform fees compared.

Questions
Codementor has no subscription. Mentors set their own prices, usually $8 to $15 per 15 minutes for newer mentors and $15 to $30 for experienced developers, which is $32 to $120 an hour. Freelance jobs posted on Codementor typically run $60 to $100 an hour. A service fee is added to each payment.
You pay the mentor's 15-minute rate for the first 15 minutes, then the same rate per minute after that. A 45-minute session with a $30 per 15 minute mentor costs $90 plus the service fee. Sessions are paid from your card or prepaid Codementor credits.
Codementor adds a service fee to credits, sessions, freelance jobs, direct payments and code reviews, and shows the breakdown before you pay. Reviewers report it as a 2.85% processing fee plus a $1 to $3 platform fee. That is 5% to 10% on a $40 session and close to 3% on a $2,000 job.
They are sister services from the same company. Codementor stays the marketplace for live mentorship and small freelance jobs. Its vetted hiring service, CodementorX, was rebranded as Arc in 2019 and now handles longer freelance and full-time developer placements, with its own pricing and a placement fee.
For an hour of expert help or a small, well-defined fix, yes. Fees are low and you can start within minutes. For an ongoing developer you will keep for months, mentorship rates of up to $120 an hour cost more than a contractor, and you do the vetting and contracting yourself.
On fees, usually yes. Codementor's reported 2.85% plus $1 to $3 is below Upwork Basic's 5% client fee and its contract initiation fee of up to $14.99. Developer rates on Codementor tend to sit higher than Upwork's open market, so the total bill depends more on who you hire than on the fee. See Upwork pricing.
Post the role once and get a shortlist of three vetted developers. Agree the rate, pay the developer directly and keep them as long as the work lasts. $349 a month for the post, no project fee.
Business is $349 per month, or $174 per month billed yearly (50% off), for a project post on the SuperGig project board, with no project fee.
