Resume writing services cost $139 to $1,899 in 2026, and most working professionals land between $350 and $700. Entry-level packages start near $139. Executive packages run $699 to $1,899. Federal resumes are a separate market at $600 to $2,500.
Those flat fees can be checked against the hourly market, which is the useful thing nobody does. Freelance resume writers bill a median of $42 an hour, most between $25 and $65, and writers report spending 5 to 12 hours on a mid-career resume.
Median rate times median hours is $42 x 8.5 = $357. The published floor of the mid-career flat-fee market is $350. The two agree to within $7, which tells you the flat-fee floor is not a discount. It is the hourly market, repackaged.
Where they separate is at the top. A $700 flat package finished in 5 hours implies $140 an hour, and the same package taking 12 hours implies $58.33. That 2.4x spread is the writer pricing the risk that your career is complicated. Which it might be.

Fund milestone 1 · $1,800 in escrow · $4,800 in escrow · $12,500 in escrow · released on your approval
See the rate before the sales call
Every resume writer we match shows a rate on the card before you talk, so you can price your own search against the tables below instead of filling in a quote form and waiting. Milestone escrow holds the money until the draft lands and you have read it.
Last updated September 2026. Vendor prices verified September 2026 and quoted from published rate cards.
By career level
Career level is the single biggest driver of price, and it is a proxy for how much raw material the writer has to sort through. A graduate has one page of facts. A vice president has twenty years of overlapping scope, three reorganizations and a set of numbers that need context before they mean anything. The second job takes longer because the editing is harder, not because the document is longer.
| Career level | Typical price | Experience | Writer hours | What the money buys |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Student or graduate | $139 to $300 | 0 to 3 yrs | 2 to 5 | Clean format, coursework and internships written as results |
| Entry level | $200 to $500 | Under 5 yrs | 3 to 6 | First real achievement rewrite, one target role |
| Mid-career professional | $350 to $700 | 3 to 15 yrs | 5 to 12 | Full intake interview, quantified achievements, one revision round |
| Senior and management | $500 to $900 | 10 to 20 yrs | 8 to 15 | Scope and P and L framing, LinkedIn alignment, two revision rounds |
| Executive and C-suite | $699 to $1,899 | 15 yrs and up | 12 to 25 | Resume plus biography, board profile, LinkedIn, positioning strategy |
| Federal, GS grades | $300 to $1,200 | Any | 6 to 20 | OPM qualification research, two-page compression, USAJOBS keywords |
| Federal, SES | $1,200 to $2,500+ | Senior | 20 to 40 | ECQ narratives, which are separate essays, plus the two-page resume |
The honest middle
Most people reading this need the $350 to $700 band. Below it you are buying formatting. Above it you are buying documents you probably do not need yet.
What does not change price
Page count. A two-page resume does not cost twice a one-page resume, and at senior level the shorter document is the more expensive one to produce because compression is the hard part.
What does
Number of deliverables, number of target roles, turnaround, and whether anyone has to research an external standard such as OPM qualification criteria before writing a word.
Published prices
These are published prices, taken from each service's own rate card in September 2026. They move, so check before you buy. What the table shows is that the resume market is not one market. The distance from the cheapest published package to the most expensive is 13.7x, and both ends are selling something they call a resume.
| Service | Entry | Professional | Executive | Notable terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ZipJob | from $139 | $189 | $299 | Top tier adds cover letter, LinkedIn and expedited delivery |
| TopResume | around $200 | $200 to $400 | $350 to $700 | Publishes $200 to $1,000+ as the whole-market range |
| Find My Profession | from $395 | mid range | to $995 | Single published band of $395 to $995 |
| Let's Eat Grandma | from $439 | mid range | $899 | Executive Concierge sold separately at $1,899 |
| ResumeSpice | $479 | $589 | $699 | Tightest ladder of the group, only $220 top to bottom |
| Independent freelance writer | $125 to $325 | $210 to $552 | $500 to $1,500 | Hourly $25 to $65, median $42, or a negotiated flat fee |
| Federal specialist | $149 to $299 | $300 to $599 | $1,200 to $2,500+ | Premium tier $600 to $1,200; per-tailoring fees extra |
Two things stand out. ResumeSpice runs the tightest ladder in the market, only $220 from its entry package to its executive one, which suggests it prices by process rather than by seniority. ZipJob's executive tier at $299 is below ResumeSpice's entry tier at $479. When one company's top package costs less than another company's bottom package, the word "executive" is doing no work at all and you have to read the deliverables list instead of the tier name.
The check nobody runs
Almost every resume service quotes a flat fee, and almost every freelance resume writer quotes an hourly rate. Both numbers are published, so they can be reconciled, and the result tells you whether a package is fairly priced. The published freelance market is a median of $42 an hour with most writers between $25 and $65. Writers report spending 5 to 12 hours on a mid-career resume.
| Flat fee | If it takes 5 hrs | If it takes 8.5 hrs | If it takes 12 hrs | Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $350 | $70.00/hr | $41.18/hr | $29.17/hr | Sits on the published median. Fair both ways |
| $500 | $100.00/hr | $58.82/hr | $41.67/hr | Fair on a complex history, generous on a simple one |
| $700 | $140.00/hr | $82.35/hr | $58.33/hr | Only defensible if the work really is 10 hours or more |
| $899 | $179.80/hr | $105.76/hr | $74.92/hr | Above the freelance ceiling at every duration |
| $1,899 | $379.80/hr | $223.41/hr | $158.25/hr | Not a writing fee. You are buying strategy and documents |
The floor reconciles exactly
Median hourly times median hours is $42 x 8.5 = $357. The published mid-career flat-fee floor is $350. Seven dollars apart. The flat-fee floor is not a bargain, it is the hourly market restated, and that is a useful thing to know before you assume a cheap package means a cheap writer.
The ceiling does not
A $700 package delivered in five hours implies $140 an hour, which is 2.15x the published freelance ceiling of $65. The same package at twelve hours implies $58.33. The 2.4x gap between those is the risk premium you pay for certainty about the price.
The practical use of this table is negotiation. If your work history is genuinely straightforward, one employer, one career track, no gaps, then a flat $700 is expensive and you should either ask for hourly or ask what else is in the package. If your history is complicated, three industries, a career change, two years out of the workforce, the flat fee is the better deal and you should take it, because you are the reason that risk premium exists. The same logic applies to longer-form ghostwriting projects, where an uncapped hourly quote carries far more risk than a flat one.
Deliverables
Comparing two quotes is only possible once you know what each one contains, and the tier names do not tell you. Every service prices the add-ons individually, so a cheap base package with three paid extras often lands above a more expensive package that bundled them. Price the bundle, not the headline.
| Deliverable | Usually included? | Typical add-on price | Worth paying for when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Written resume, editable and PDF | Always | base fee | Always. Insist on an editable file, not PDF only |
| Intake call or questionnaire | Usually | included | A live call beats a form on anything senior |
| Revision rounds | 1 to 2 rounds | $50 to $150 each | Check the window. Many expire in 7 to 30 days |
| Cover letter | Mid tiers up | $60 to $250 | Bundled runs $150 to $250 with the resume |
| LinkedIn profile rewrite | Top tiers only | $150 to $500 | Nearly always. Recruiters search there first |
| Professional biography | Executive only | $200 to $600 | Board seats, speaking, senior search firms |
| Thank-you and follow-up notes | Rarely | $50 to $150 | Skip it. Write these yourself, they must sound like you |
| Interview coaching | Premium only | $150 to $500/session | Career changers and anyone out of practice |
| Rush delivery | No | +30% to 100% | Roughly $100 to $300. Only for a real deadline |
| Per-role tailoring | No | $100 to $200 each | See the federal section. This is the expensive trap |
One line in that table deserves attention before you sign anything: the revision window. A package that includes two revision rounds inside seven days is materially worse than one that includes one round inside ninety days, because real feedback arrives after you have used the resume for a while and seen what happens. Ask for the window in writing.
The other document
A resume is a document you send. A LinkedIn profile is a document recruiters find without being asked, which makes it the higher-leverage of the two for anyone not actively applying. Prices for a standalone rewrite run about $150 to $500, with specialist services at $229 to $499 and executive packages at $500 to $900.
| Option | Price | Scope | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bundled with a resume package | $0 to $200 extra | Headline, about, experience aligned to the resume | Almost everyone. Cheapest route by a wide margin |
| Standalone makeover | $150 to $500 | Full profile rewrite, keyword targeting | Anyone happy with their resume already |
| Specialist service | $229 to $499 | Rewrite plus search positioning | Passive candidates who want inbound approaches |
| Executive package | $500 to $900 | Adds strategy call, content themes, headshot guidance | Senior leaders building visible authority |
| Ongoing profile management | $1,500 to $8,000/mo | Posting, engagement, ongoing content | Founders and executives with a marketing goal, not a job search |
Buy the profile with the resume. The reason is process, not discount: the writer has already run your intake interview, already extracted your achievements and already decided how to frame your last three roles. Coming back six months later means paying someone to do that discovery a second time. That last row is a different product entirely, and if ongoing posting is what you actually want, our guide to LinkedIn ghostwriting retainers prices it properly.
A separate market
Federal hiring runs on a different document with different rules, and one of those rules changed recently enough that a lot of advice online is now wrong. Since 27 September 2025, the Office of Personnel Management has limited resumes submitted through USAJOBS to two pages. If the only resume an applicant submits runs longer than two pages, that applicant is ineligible for further consideration. The old five-page federal resume is not merely out of fashion. It is disqualifying.
That single fact is the reason federal resume demand jumped. Anyone who paid for a federal resume before late 2025 owns a document that no longer clears the first gate. If you are checking a vendor, the fastest quality test is to ask what length they write to. A service still advertising four to six page federal resumes is working from a standard that OPM retired.
| Tier | Price | What it includes | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | $149 to $299 | Template-driven, limited customization | Generic keyword stuffing against the announcement |
| Mid-range | $300 to $599 | Consultation plus tailored writing | How many announcements the fee covers |
| Premium | $600 to $1,200 | Certified writers, coaching, multiple revisions | Whether coaching is sessions or a recording |
| Executive and SES | $1,200 to $2,500+ | ECQ narratives plus the two-page resume | ECQs are separate essays. Confirm how many are included |
| Per-role tailoring | $100 to $200 each | Rewriting against one more announcement | The real cost centre. Negotiate this, not the base fee |
| Rush | +30% to 100% | Compressed turnaround | Roughly $100 to $300 on typical base fees |
The tailoring trap
Federal applicants rarely apply once. At $200 per announcement, tailoring passes the cost of a $1,200 premium resume after just six announcements. At $100 it takes twelve. Ten announcements cost $1,000 to $2,000 in tailoring alone, more than the resume. Negotiate the per-role fee before you negotiate anything else.
Where the federal premium really comes from
Federal writers cite 2 to 4 hours of OPM research before writing begins. At the published freelance ceiling of $65 an hour, four hours is $260, which would take a $700 civilian executive resume to $960. SES pricing starts at $1,200 and runs past $2,500. Research time explains $260 of a gap that runs $240 to $1,540 wider than that. You are not paying for research. You are paying for the ECQ essays.
The real alternatives
Every comparison of resume services skips the option most people actually take, which is doing it themselves and calling it free. It is not free, it just does not send an invoice. Median usual weekly earnings for the 120.9 million American full-time wage and salary workers were $1,251 in the second quarter of 2026, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That is $31.27 an hour across a forty-hour week.
| Route | Cash cost | Your hours | Time cost at $31.27/hr | True total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Write it yourself, simple history | $0 | 1 to 2 | $31 to $63 | $31 to $63 |
| Write it yourself, mid-career | $0 | 2 to 4 | $63 to $125 | $63 to $125 |
| Write it yourself, long career | $0 | 4 to 6+ | $125 to $188+ | $125 to $188+ |
| Do it properly yourself, writer's hours | $0 | 5 to 12 | $156 to $375 | $156 to $375 |
| AI resume builder subscription | $0 to $50/mo | 2 to 5 | $63 to $156 | $63 to $206 |
| Entry-level writing service | $139 to $300 | 1 to 2 | $31 to $63 | $170 to $363 |
| Mid-career writing service | $350 to $700 | 1 to 3 | $31 to $94 | $381 to $794 |
Look at rows four and six. Doing the job to a professional standard yourself costs $156 to $375 of your own time. An entry-level service costs $170 to $363 all in. Those two bands sit on top of each other. At median US earnings, writing your own resume properly costs roughly what buying one costs, and you end up with the version written by the person who is worst placed to judge which of your achievements matter. That is the real argument for paying someone, and it has nothing to do with writing ability.
The honest counterpoint: if you earn well below the median, or you are between jobs and your hours genuinely have no market value this week, the arithmetic flips and doing it yourself is the right call. Spend the time, use the free tools, and put the money toward the search itself.
Is it worth it
Nobody can promise you a job, and any service that does is lying. What can be stated precisely is the bar the purchase has to clear. One working day of median US full-time pay is $250.20, from that $1,251 weekly figure. So every package price converts into a number of working days your search has to shorten by before the spend is neutral.
| Package price | Weeks of median pay | Working days it must save | Who buys at this level |
|---|---|---|---|
| $139 | 0.11 | 0.56 | Graduates and first-job seekers |
| $299 | 0.24 | 1.20 | Early career, bundled cover letter |
| $500 | 0.40 | 2.00 | The typical mid-career buyer |
| $699 | 0.56 | 2.79 | Senior professionals and managers |
| $899 | 0.72 | 3.59 | Executives buying a document set |
| $1,899 | 1.52 | 7.59 | C-suite concierge engagements |
| $2,500 | 2.00 | 9.99 | SES federal applicants with ECQs |
The mid-career number
A $500 package breaks even if it shortens your search by two working days. Not two weeks. Two days. Against a search that typically runs for months, that is a low bar, and it is the strongest argument in favour of buying at this level.
The executive number
Even the $1,899 concierge package only needs to save 7.6 working days at median pay, and executives are not on median pay. Run it against your own salary and the bar drops further, which is why the top of the market survives.
The part this ignores
Offer size, not just speed. If a better-argued resume moves you into a higher band, the payback is a multiple of anything above. That effect is real but it cannot be promised, so we have deliberately left it out of the table.
Vetting
Price tells you very little in this market, as the rate card table showed. These are the checks that actually separate a good engagement from a bad one, in the order they matter.
1. Who actually writes it
Large services assign your file to a writer from a pool. Ask whether you can see that person's background and whether you can speak to them directly. A writer who has never worked in or recruited for your field will write competent sentences about work they do not understand, and hiring managers notice.
2. Intake depth
A questionnaire produces a tidier version of what you already wrote. A live interview produces the achievements you forgot you had, which is the entire value on offer. If the package has no call, you are buying formatting. Price it accordingly.
3. Certification, as a floor
Three credentials matter: the CPRW from the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches, the NCRW from the National Resume Writers Association, and the CARW from Career Directors International. Each requires passing a juried assessment. It is evidence of competence, not of results, and an uncertified specialist in your industry often beats a certified generalist.
4. The guarantee, read closely
Sixty-day interview guarantees are common and usually mean a free rewrite, not a refund. Most carry conditions, such as a minimum number of applications submitted. Read what triggers the guarantee and what it pays out, because those are two different things.
5. File formats
Insist on an editable document, not a PDF alone. You will need to adjust this resume for years, and a service that withholds the source file has turned every future edit into a paid change order.
6. Samples in your field
Ask for two anonymized samples at your level in your industry. Every service has beautiful samples. Fewer have beautiful samples for a supply chain manager with an eighteen-month gap, which may be the problem you are actually paying to solve.
The vetting problem here is the same one that shows up whenever you hire any specialist writer. Our guide to what freelance writers charge covers the per-word and per-hour conventions across the wider writing market, and the same intake-quality test applies there too. The reconciliation on this page is not a one-off either: grant writing services reproduce it exactly, with 20 hours at the $75 mid-level rate landing on the published $1,500 foundation-proposal floor, the same way $42 times 8.5 hours lands on the $350 resume floor. When a flat-fee floor equals the hourly market, the floor is honest.
The process
01
Brief and intake
You send your current resume and target roles. A good writer runs a 45 to 60 minute interview to pull out numbers, scope and outcomes that were never written down.
02
First draft
Three to seven business days at standard turnaround. This is where most of the 5 to 12 hours goes, and where a flat fee starts absorbing the writer's risk.
03
Revision rounds
One or two rounds are standard. Give feedback on substance and emphasis rather than wording, because emphasis is the part only you can judge.
04
Delivery and alignment
Editable and PDF files, plus the LinkedIn rewrite if you bundled it. Total elapsed time is usually one to two weeks from brief to final.
On SuperGig the same engagement runs against milestone escrow. You fund the milestone, the writer delivers the draft, and the money releases when you have read it and accepted it. Every writer in the shortlist is vetted through the same four-stage process and shows their rate on the card before the first conversation, so you are comparing real numbers against the tables above rather than waiting on a quote form.
Questions
Resume writing services cost $139 to $1,899 in 2026, with most professionals paying $350 to $700. Entry-level packages run about $139 to $300, mid-career work $350 to $700, and executive packages $699 to $1,899. Federal resumes are priced separately at $600 to $2,500 because of the two-page OPM limit and ECQ narratives.
Freelance resume writers bill a median of $42 an hour, with most between $25 and $65. A mid-career resume takes 5 to 12 hours of writer time. Multiplying the median rate by the median hours gives $357, within $7 of the $350 floor of the published flat-fee market, so the two pricing models agree closely.
The arithmetic is simple. Median full-time weekly earnings were $1,251 in the second quarter of 2026, so one working day of median pay is $250. A $500 package pays for itself if it shortens your search by two working days, and a $139 package pays for itself in half a day. Nobody can promise that outcome, but that is the bar it has to clear.
A base package is normally one consultation, a written resume in editable and PDF form, and one or two revision rounds. Cover letters, LinkedIn rewrites, professional bios, thank-you notes and interview coaching are usually priced separately. Bundled resume plus cover letter packages typically run $150 to $250 above a bare resume.
Executive resume packages run $350 to $700 at the mainstream services and $699 to $1,899 at the specialist end. The published ceiling is a concierge package at $1,899. Price rises with the number of documents rather than the length of the resume, because senior searches need a biography, a board profile and a LinkedIn rewrite alongside it.
Professional writers report spending 5 to 12 hours on a mid-career resume, including the intake interview, drafting and revisions. Calendar turnaround is normally 3 to 7 business days at standard speed. Rush delivery is commonly priced at 30% to 100% above the base fee, or roughly $100 to $300 extra.
LinkedIn profile optimization runs about $150 to $500 as a standalone rewrite, with expert services at $229 to $499 and executive packages at $500 to $900. Buying it bundled with a resume is almost always cheaper than buying it later, because the writer has already done the intake interview.
Federal applications are a different document with different rules, and since 27 September 2025 OPM has limited USAJOBS resumes to two pages. An applicant whose only resume runs longer than two pages is ineligible for further consideration. If your federal resume was written under the old five-page standard, it now needs rewriting regardless of who does it.
Certification comes from three main bodies: the CPRW from the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches, the NCRW from the National Resume Writers Association, and the CARW from Career Directors International. Certification proves a writer passed a juried assessment. It is a floor on competence, not a guarantee of results.
Match the spend to the salary you are chasing rather than to a fixed number. Under $300 buys a competent format and clean writing. The $350 to $700 band buys a real intake interview and achievement rewriting. Above $900 you are buying a document set and strategy, which only pays off in senior searches where a single offer moves six figures.
No, and any service that promises one is selling something it cannot deliver. What reputable services offer is an interview guarantee, commonly 60 days, meaning a free rewrite if the resume does not generate interview activity. Read the terms, because most require you to have applied to a minimum number of roles.
A good writer fixes the two things that actually block interviews: achievements written as duties, and a format that buries relevant experience. Neither needs a large budget to fix. What a service cannot fix is a genuine mismatch between your experience and the roles you are applying for, which is why intake quality matters more than price.
Tell us your career level, your target roles and whether you need the LinkedIn rewrite too, and we hand-pick a shortlist of vetted writers within 48 hours, each with their rate on the card. Milestone escrow holds the money until the draft lands and you have read it.
